Goffin Cockatoo

coming

4-15-09

The delightful Goffin Cockatoo is a lively species which loves to have a lot of freedom outside of the cage
and plenty of exercise. This is a very intelligent species that enjoys a lot of activity. Goffin Cockatoos are quite playful and precocious.

Males and females are identical in appearance. At first sight it appears to be a white cockatoo with some salmon/peachy/pink face feathers, and a pale grey beak. Like all members of the Cacatuidae, Goffin's Cockatoo is crested, meaning it has a collection of feathers on its head that it can raise or lower. Its body is mainly covered with white feathers, with salmon/peachy/pink colored feathers between the beak and eyes and also on the underside of the crest feathers. The underside of its wing and tail feathers exhibit a yellowish tinge. The eyes range from brown to black. The Goffin's Cockatoo is quite graceful in flight.

They make wonderful family pets are are very devoted to their owners. The goffins are less demanding and noisy than most of the other cockatoo species, and have a great personality to boot. They make a good choice for people who would like a cockatoo that is somewhat easier to accommodate than the larger species. This does not, however, mean that keeping them caged all day without much attention is acceptable.

Rose-Breasted Cockatoo ~SOLD~
This medium-sized cockatoo is relatively quiet and has an engaging, spritely personality and a good ability to mimic human speech. The Rosie is very playful and interactive with its owner.

Rosies enjoy the presence of humans and can sit happily on a perch in the same room with their owners for hours. They are also very verbal and will often respond to human speech with either squawks or words. This is indicative of the fact that, although they may not want to be held, they definitely crave and enjoy ongoing social interaction. It is important for owners of these birds to be aware of the extent of their social needs. Rosies may not want to cuddle often, but they always want to be around humans, other animals or both. Independent creatures they may be, but they are not anti-social.

DuCorp's Cockatoo ~SOLD~

This elegant little cockatoo is relatively new to U.S. aviculture. It has a sweet and calm demeanor and is more quiet than many other cockatoo species.

Ducorp's Cockatoos grow to about 13 inches in length. They have predominantly white plumage although sometimes the hidden bases of the head and breast feathers have a carnation pink base. Their crests are round and very broad. Ducorp's Cockatoos have pale yellow undersides to their wings and tails. Their feet are gray and their bills are grayish-white. Males have dark brown or black irises, while females have more red coloration in their irises.

Sulfur Crested Cockatoo coming soon

The Sulphur-crested Cockatoo is a large white parrot, measuring 45cm - 50cm. It has a dark grey-black bill, a distinctive sulphur-yellow crest and a yellow wash on the underside of the wings. Sexes are similar, although the female can be separated at close range by its red-brown eye (darker brown in the male). This is a noisy and conspicuous cockatoo, both at rest and in flight. The most common call is a distinctive loud screech, ending with a slight upward inflection. Young Sulphur-crested Cockatoos resemble the adults.

Sulfur Crested Cockatoo are readily trained to learn tricks. They also have exhibited strong mimicking ability, with many owners reporting speech from their Sulfur Crested Cockatoo. Like all parrots there are not guarantees your Cockatoo will talk. It has also been reported that the speech of the Sulfur Cockatoo is not as good as that of the African Grey varieties. The Sulfur Crested Cockatoo has a strident call and can become quite noisy.

Umbrella Cockatoo now available

The Umbrella Cockatoo of Indonesia at first appears to be a solid white parrot with brown eyes. If it is surprised, it extends a large and striking crest, which has a semicircular shape (similar to an umbrella, hence the name.) The crest is normally recumbent. It also has bright yellow feathers underneath its wings which flash when they fly

Unforunately as they can live up to, and perhaps beyond, 80 years in age, are very social, needing a lot of interaction, and are VERY loud (their calls can be heard up to three miles away), most of the birds taken as pets end up struggling to live and are often forced to jump from one owner to the next. They are good pets, as they are friendly and sociable and do not often attach to only one human the way many amazon parrots or African Grey parrots will.
